  Absences - If your child is sick or unable to attend school please contact the school office before 9:30am that day.

 

Accidents - If your child is injuries at school staff will take any appropriate first aide measures. If the injury involves the child's head we will notify you

.

  Ashton Scholastic Books - Books can be ordered through the school each term. Pamphlets will be sent home and if you wish to purchase books please make your cheque out to Tasman School. Late orders will not be accepted.

  Assembly - Full school assemblies are held each Friday afternoon. We encourage parents to attend if possible.

  Bell Times – This year we are going to stick rigidly to our bell time to maximize learning time:
School Starts – 8.55am
Playtime - 10.25 to 10.45
Lunchtime - 12.30 to 1.15
Afternoon break – 2pm to 2.10
Finish Time - 2.55pm
A senior student will ring the bell at these times.

  Board of Trustees - The Board is comprised of 5 elected parent representatives, a staff representative and the Principal. They are responsible for all areas of governance. Meetings are open to the public. Minutes and other meeting information are available from the school office. Tasman School’s BOT chairperson is Mrs Lee Stevens.

  Buses - Our school bus services Tasman, Mapua and Mahana Schools. It arrives at school at 8:05am and departs at 3:00pm
 

Biking to School - Students under the age of six are not permitted to bike to school. Students between 6 and 10 years may bike to school accompanied by an adult. Older students may bike to school on their own. They must bike directly to the bike sheds and must not ride their bike around the grounds. The bike sheds are out of bounds during the school day

 

  Concerns - An open door policy exists in our school. If you have any concerns relating to school we encourage you to talk to us about them. Feel free to approach the class teacher or Principal at any time.

  Cyclists - Children cycling to school must not cycle in the school grounds and must wear a cycle helmet. The school discourages children under the age of 10 from cycling to school.

 

Clubz - This is our extra-curricular programme which is run on a Friday for all students. Clubz offers everything from Cooking to Golf to computers .


  Dental Therapist - Dental Therapy is available to all Tasman School children through the Motueka South Dental Clinic. The clinic contacts parents to arrange your child's annual check up. .

  Enrolments - New Entrants - when enrolling your 5 year old for the first time it is important to provide their birth certificate and, if possible, an immunization certificate obtained from your doctor. To make the transition to school easier we encourage parents to bring their children in to Room 1 for a pre entry visit.
Other enrolments - The Principal is happy to enrol any new children and show prospective families around the school. Contact the Principal directly at: principal@tasman.school.nz


  Fashion verse Sensible – Students are expected to dress in a way that will allow them to participate in normal school activities, ie PE, Motec etc. Tight fitting or “revealing” clothing is not appropriate at school as is the “Gangster” type clothing – hoodies, bandanas, low rider pants. Students will be required to go home and change if they turn up to school inappropriately dressed.
  Fees - Tasman School fees are $50 per year per child (Maximum of $120/ Family). School fees are a donation, but are important to the operational costs of the school.

  Fundraising - Tasman School has an active fundraising committee. New members are always welcome. Michelle Hawthorne is our school coordinator.

  Homework - All classes provide homework to some degree. We ask for parents assistance in ensuring this is completed.
  Internet - Internet is available in all classrooms under strict supervision by the teacher and in accordance with our school internet
  Leaving the School Grounds – Children are not permitted to leave the school grounds unless they have a note explaining why it is necessary. Children can occasionally go to the shop for lunch, but this is at teacher discretion and they must take a buddy. This needs to be arranged by the parent before hand.
  Library - Children are encouraged to take library books home on a regular basis. Please do not attempt to mend any damaged books at home. There are no penalties for overdue books so please encourage children to return long lost books when they are found.

  Lost Property - Children are encouraged to take responsibility for their own property, particularly clothing. Each class has a lost property bin. Lost property is displayed at the school assembly.

  Lunches – The school provides a sausage sizzle on a Thursday. Children can buy a sausage in bread for $1 and a Juicie for a $1.
  Mobile Phones – Children can bring their mobile phones to school for the purpose of contacting parents before and after school. Students not use their phones in school time and during the breaks and definitely not at Motec. Students must keep their phones in their bags and bring them to school at their own risk. If students abuse the privilege of having a phone at school they will be told to take it home and leave it there.
  MOTEC - All year 7 and 8 students attend MOTEC at Parklands School every Wednesday from 11:00am until 12:30pm. They travel by bus from the school. MOTEC teachers will advise students of any special requirements throughout the year. There is an annual fee of $40 for Year 7 and $44 for Year 8 students.

 

Newsletters - Our informative school newsletter comes out fortnightly on a Wednesday. It is given to the eldest child in the family or alternatively it can be e-mailed to you. It is also be available on our website.


  Office Hours - The Tasman School office is staffed from 8:30am until 12:30pm weekdays. Both the Principal and School Secretary are available at this time. The school has an answer phone outside of these hours which is checked regularly by staff.

  Parent Help -Tasman School actively encourages parent help whether it be reading with a class, clubs, transporting children, or doing a small job in the office. If you would like to help out, feel free to talk to your child's class teacher or the Principal.

  Reporting to Parents - The school reports to parents three times a year, in written form in Terms 2 and 4 and with oral interviews in Term 1. In each term sample folios are sent home.

  School Hours - School hours are 8:55am until 2:55pm, with morning tea break from 10:25am until 10:45am and lunch from 12:30pm until 1:25pm.
  School T-Shirts and Hats - The school supplies T-Shirts for sports events but if you would like to purchase one for your child to wear to school orders can be placed at the office. Also available are school hats.

  Smoke-free – Tasman is a Smokefree school and smoking is not permitted in the school grounds and buildings at all times and at events, camps and outings associated with the school.
  Stationery - Children will be issued with a list of their stationery requirements on enrolment and at the end of each year by the class teacher. Stationery can be purchased from school if you wish.

  Sun Smart - Tasman School is a "Sun Smart" School and has a "no hat then play in the shade" policy.

 

Swimming - The swimming programme runs for the first 6 weeks of Term 1, with senior students using the Motueka High School pool once a week. Swimming is compulsory unless a note from a parent/caregiver is supplied. School pool keys can be purchased from the office at a cost of $35 with $5 refund on return of the key.

 

  Toys at School - We would prefer it if children would leave their toys and bubble gum cards at home as they can be a distraction and often cause conflict if lost. If your child has a special toy they wish to share for news, send it to school with a note from you

  Washing Roster - Parents are asked if they are willing to join a roster to launder school towels and sports T-shirts. If you are able to assist with this please leave your details at the school office.
  Zero Tolerance to Bullying - Tasman School prides itself on its safe learning environment. For this reason we have no tolerance for bullying what so ever. If your child has been involved in bullying you will receive a phone call - if you suspect your child is a victim of bullying, please contact the school immediately.
